A new action-comedy movie featuring a reunion of two of the stars of Pitch Perfect franchise has been met with derision from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The trilogy of musical comedy movies, which followed the exploits of the college a cappella group the Barden Bellas, debuted in theaters between 2012 and 2019, followed by the one-season Peacock spinoff Bumper in Berlin in 2022.
Joining the ensemble cast of the Pitch Perfect movies helped cement a number of up-and-coming stars who have since gone on to other major projects. This roster includes Anna Kendrick (A Simple Favor), Rebel Wilson (Isn’t It Romantic), Anna Camp (You), Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye), Skylar Astin (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), Adam DeVine (The Righteous Gemstones), and Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen).
Bride Hard Debuted On Rotten Tomatoes With A Low Score
The Movie Stars Rebel Wilson & Anna Camp
Bride Hard is not performing well with critics. The 2025 action movie is a comedic riff on Die Hard that follows secret agent and bridesmaid Sam (Rebel Wilson) who finds herself forced to fight mercenaries who raid the wedding of her friend Betsy (Anna Camp). The ensemble cast of the movie also includes Anna Chlumsky (Veep), Stephen Dorff (Blade), Justin Hartley (Tracker), Sherry Cola (Joy Ride), Gigi Zumbado (Heart Eyes), Colleen Camp (Clue), and Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers).
Bride Hard was directed by Simon West (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) from a screenplay by Shaina Steinberg (Chase).
Rotten Tomatoes has now aggregated enough reviews to give the movie an official score. While this could fluctuate as more reviews are added, at the time of writing, 12 critics’ reviews have been collected to give Bride Hard a dismal 25% score. While the three Fresh reviews have given it mixed-to-positive ratings that include scores of B- and 3 out of 4, the Rotten reviews are much harsher on average, giving the movie a variety of bottom-of-the-barrel ratings including 1.5 out of 5, 1 out of 10, D-, and 0 out of 4.
Those 12 critics include ScreenRant‘s own Ben Sherlock. Below, read an excerpt from his Bride Hard review, in which he also gave the movie a score of 1 out of 10:
The joke writing is atrocious — after a climactic explosion, the bride makes [the pun], “At least my wedding is lit!” — and the tearful final reunion isn’t earned at all. Even the outtakes that play alongside the end credits aren’t funny. We’re only halfway through the year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Bride Hard ends up being the worst movie of 2025.
What This Means For Bride Hard
Its Box Office Prospects Are Dwindling
This Rotten Tomatoes score could potentially help sink Bride Hard at the box office, as it was already not set up for success. Its premiere comes alongside the debuts of two much bigger tentpole movies, namely the anticipated horror sequel 28 Years Later and Pixar’s Elio, which were already poised to crowd it out of theaters. However, both Pitch Perfect stars have upcoming projects that could prevent them from hitting a major slump, as Wilson will star opposite Kiefer Sutherland in the Christmas comedy Tinsel Town and Camp will be part of the ensemble cast of the upcoming Scream 7.
