Netflix’s long-awaited video game adaptation is still in the works, and the streamer is keen on getting it off the ground sooner rather than later. Announced in early 2022, BioShock is getting the live-action treatment from the director of the Hunger Games franchise. Updates have been scarce on the sci-fi project, but it now sounds like it is next in line for the creative team.
In an interview with Collider, producer Roy Lee confirmed that Netflix’s adaptation of BioShock is going to happen once director Francis Lawrence is done with his work on The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. In fact, Netflix and game publisher Take-Two are “anxious” to release the movie in time for when the game installment comes out.
“We would have gotten it made a few years back, but then other movies got in the way, with one being The Long Walk and the other being The Hunger Games prequel, which comes out this December. We’re just waiting for him to finish post-production, because he’s going to be working on it through at least September, and then jump back into it. I know that Netflix and Take-Two are very anxious to see the movie come out because they want to have the release coincide with some of the potential new incarnations of the game.”
