Netflix Revenge Thriller ‘Unspeakable Sins’ Tops Global Charts

There’s been no shortage of great thriller shows on Netflix this year, as 2025 has given rise to such hits as American Primeval, Untamed, and Dept. Q. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, another has come along to storm to the top of the global charts, and it’s most likely one you’re not familiar with considering it’s been getting a mixed bag of responses from fans.

Titled Unspeakable Sins, the Spanish-language Mexican revenge thriller has toppled Untamed to take the top spot on the global charts, and it currently sits at #7 in the United States. Released on July 30, the series was created by Leticia López Margalli and Guillermo Ríos, and stars Zuria Vega, Andrés Baida and Erik Hayser. With 18 episodes in total and each one running roughly 35 to 40 minutes, there’s plenty for viewers to binge on, making the new thriller perfect for weekend viewing.

Following Helena, a woman in a loveless and controlling marriage, Unspeakable Sins traces her journey as she finds solace – and revenge – in the arms of a younger man. That is, until the affair spirals out of control and into a dangerous fight for survival. Blending the elements of a good thriller with all the melodrama of a telenovela, it certainly sounds like an intriguing premise, and with the series dealing with themes of trauma, morality, and power, Unspeakable Sins has all the trappings necessary to be a success, but unfortunately it isn’t being well-received by the majority of viewers despite its global ranking.

‘Unspeakable Sins’ Has Yet to Connect with Fans

Netflix

Though it doesn’t have enough reviews to earn it a Rotten Tomatoes rating, Unspeakable Sins currently sits at just 4.8/10 on IMDb. Some have called it a “gripping Mexican drama that delivers exactly what it promises,” while others call it a “top-tier” show that features “lots of unexpected twists and turns.” Unfortunately, the positive reviews are outliers, as the majority of folks have come to the table with nothing but negativity.

“This is another soft-porn TV series where the story and message get lost within the over-exposed sex scenes,” said one IMDb user, while another echoed those sentiments to add that “everything about this series makes no sense.” Yet another disappointed viewer wrote:

“I will never be able to find the right words to describe how insignificant the script of this TV series is. 18 episodes of nothing, apart from the sex scenes that are clearly placed there because it is the only way to capture the attention of the viewer. Acting at the limit of a school play […] twists and turns equal to zero […] The ending is ridiculous.”

Your mileage may vary, of course, but so far Unspeakable Sins seems to be lost in translation. That’s not unexpected, of course, as despite U.S. viewers being used to melodramatic soap operas, telenovelas are on a different level. They’re more emotionally charged and faster paced than their American counterparts, and sometimes the cultural divide is just too big a chasm to bridge.

That being said, Unspeakable Sins might just be right up your alley, so if you’re willing to give it a shot, you can binge all 18 episodes now on Netflix.
