Netflix Reveals Details of New Crime Thriller Series ‘All the Sinners Bleed’

Netflix has now revealed the first details of its upcoming serial adaptation that will aim to combine neo-Western with Southern Gothic and wrap it all up in a gripping serial killer thriller. Led by Gangs of London and Black Mirror star Sope Dirisu, and written by the screenwriter behind some of the MCU’s biggest blockbuster hits in Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the crime thriller series promises to be the next must-see binge-watch from the popular streamer.

Writer Joe Robert Cole will adapt the critically acclaimed, award-winning 2023 thriller by S.A. Cosby, All the Sinners Bleed, for Netflix, with the nine-episode series following “the first Black sheriff in a small Bible Belt county must lead the hunt for a serial killer who has quietly been preying on his Black community for years in the name of God.”

Superbly named Titus Crown, All the Sinners Bleed will give Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù the opportunity to fully take the lead in a story that promises to deliver an intensely haunting story of a Sheriff whose faith is seriously tested by the savagery of man. While Dìrísù has already demonstrated his dramatic and action talents in the hit series Gangs of London, as well as the likes of Humans, Slow Horses, and Netflix’s own His House, this will be the first time a series falls entirely on the actor’s shoulders. And no doubt he’ll be able to carry it with ease.

Described as an example of “southern noir”, All the Sinners Bleed is a richly detailed story of Titus Crown, an ex-FBI agent and the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia, who, having only ever faced two murders, suddenly finds himself facing down a serial killer with “possible connections to a local church and the town’s harrowing history,” as per the book’s synopsis. Amid the serial killer horror, All the Sinners Bleed also finds Titus contending with far-right groups and the racial and historical fractures in the American South.

The rest of the All the Sinners Bleed cast includes Leila George (Disclaimer), Daniel Ezra (All American, The Running Man), John Douglas Thompson (The Gilded Age, Mare of Easttown), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus, The Last of Us), Nicole Beharie (Miss Juneteenth, The Morning Show), Andrea Cortés (Mayans M.C., On My Block), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Residence), meaning Dìrísù will also have a hugely talented ensemble backing him up and making the thriller series even more of a draw for audiences.

“The specificity of the world S.A. Cosby created truly swept me away, and Titus Crown seized my heart,” creator Joe Robert Cole told Netflix Tudum of bringing All the Sinners Bleed to live-action life on Netflix. Cole, who, alongside the two Black Panther movies, has also worked on the likes of American Crime Story and All Day and a Night, will act as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, as well as direct the first episode of the series. Producing the thriller series with him are Higher Ground Productions, the American production company founded in May 2018 by Barack and Michelle Obama, Amblin Television, and Cosby.
