Netflix Renews Ted Danson’s Beloved ‘A Man on the Inside’ for Season 3

Following last year’s successful second season of A Man on the Inside on Netflix, the streaming service has just revealed that Ted Danson’s elderly spy, Charles Nieuwendyk, will be returning for a third season of sleuthing. The Cheers star made waves when the first season premiered in 2024, with the show almost immediately renewed for its second season. That trend has continued with this latest renewal, indicating that Netflix has complete faith in Danson and series creator and executive producer Michael Schur to create an exciting new mystery for the titular character to solve, though no specific details have been released.

Schur, who is also responsible for the hit series The Good Place (also starring Danson) provided a statement in an official press release from Netflix, stating: “We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Netflix on another season of A Man on the Inside. It’s a true joy to work with this entire team, most especially the handsome, erudite, and monstrously talented Ted Danson, a true American treasure whose contract stipulates exactly what adjectives I am allowed to use while describing him in press releases.”

Clearly, Schur’s humor even bleeds into his statement, further demonstrating his fun with rapport with Danson and the chemistry between actor and creator.

While the first season of A Man on the Inside was based on a true story and documentary, the subsequent season follows a completely original story. Netflix, Schur, and Danson are clearly tapping into the same audience that is engrossed with investigators like the ones seen in Only Murders in the Building, which has been a huge hit on Hulu/Disney+ in the last several years. Danson’s Charles has captivated audiences with his excitement and passion for investigating, and watching his personal life unfold with his newfound profession has been a focal point of the series.
