David Corenswet‘s next movie is going to need a Superman to lift it to box office success after Jonathan Levine’s Mr Irrelevant has landed a release date of Dec. 25, 2026. It’s just as well, then, that the film has the new Man of Steel as its lead as it will be facing a baptism of fire in among a packed Christmas 2026 release schedule.
In 2025, Corenswet’s Superman faced a close-run battle for summer supremacy against Marvel Studios’ introduction of the Fantastic Four into the MCU. This December, Corenswet’s follow-up movie will have a much bigger challenge as it releases a week after Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part III, and Robert Eggers’ latest dark horror, Werewulf. This clearly shows that Paramount Pictures has a lot of faith in Mr Irrelevant to be anything but irrelevant when it hits cinemas, but can it defy the odds to be a surprise hit of the winter?
Mr. Irrelevant features Corenswet playing real-life NFL player Jon Tuggle, a man who was picked last in the 1983 draft by the New York Giants, and only played for a single season before dying of cancer in 1986. Despite his short time with the team, his legacy is a hugely inspirational story that will be told by Corenswet, along with Man of Steel‘s Michael Shannon, and Isabel May.
According to reports, Mr. Irrelevant has been getting some strong reactions from a successful test screening, which has spurred the studio to give moviegoers something different to the blockbuster movies opening around the same time. With Corenswet becoming a household name through his DCU debut, the movie could prove to be a sleeper hit when it is released on Dec. 25, 2026.
