Monaco boss Sebastien Pocognoli is confident Paul Pogba has lost none of his “vision and technique” after naming the former Manchester United midfielder in his squad for tomorrow’s Ligue 1 clash with Rennes.
Pogba has not played since September 2023 after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) when at Juventus.
He was initially handed a four-year ban but that was later reduced to 19 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The 32-year-old, who has always maintained his innocence, joined Monaco over the summer but, having worked up his levels of match fitness, then had to wait to get over a troublesome ankle problem.
He is now ready and available and Pocognoli is eager to get him involved.
“We try to help him reach his full potential so that the team comes out on top,” he said.
“He has the qualities to adapt to what we want to implement in midfield – he hasn’t lost his vision or his technique.
“[He will bring] experience and leadership, both on and off the pitch, not to mention his qualities, which will need to adapt to the pace of competition.”
Pogba has had two spells with United and two with Juventus, with whom he won four Serie A titles.
Monaco are sixth in the Ligue 1 standings.
