Kaoru Mitoma has told Brighton & Hove Albion he wants to stay at the club amid interest from Bayern Munich, according to reports.
The Japan forward scored 10 goals and racked up four assists – his best ever return in the Premier League – as the Seagulls finished eighth.
Brighton rejected offers from Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr in the January transfer window and it is thought the 28-year-old’s eye-catching performances have piqued the interest of a number of Europe’s top clubs, with Bayern Munich and Arsenal believed to be admirers.
However, several outlets are reporting that Mitoma has expressed a desire to sign a new contract at the Amex.
His current deal runs until 2027 but boss Fabian Hurzeler is keen to retain the winger’s services.
“We try to keep our best players,” Hurzeler told Sky Sports.
“Mitoma played a great last season but it’s only because we as a club worked together. Then you can shine as individuals.

“It’s the most important that all the players try to understand that. Mitoma understood it last season.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing him back [for pre-season]. We look forward to continue working with him, to try to improve him because I still think his limit is not reached yet.
“That’s our job, his job, the job of the whole club to get the best potential out of the players and that’s what we’re looking for in the pre-season. I’m sure he will be an important part of us.”
On Wednesday, Brighton confirmed the signing of French defender Olivier Boscagli on a five-year contract from PSV Eindhoven.
