Michael Keaton Returns as Batman for Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals Man of the Year Award Event

Michael Keaton spent many years away from the role of Batman, but since reprising his role in The Flash and the scrapped Batgirl movie, he cannot seem to keep away from the famous cowl. In a video recorded at his Man of the Year award presentation at Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals festival, he once again found himself being adorned with a familiar – if very low-budget – cape and cowl to have a very strange sword-fight with an Oscar statuette.

If it all sounds a little bizarre, then you are not alone in thinking that. However, as can be seen in the video below, Keaton was in Cambridge on Friday to accept the pudding pot at Farkas Hall and was happy to take a gentle ribbing during the proceedings, which were a long way from the likes of the Academy Awards, where two years ago he was part of a “moment” with former Batman villains Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.

During a part of the event under the title of “Salooney Tunes,” Keaton was roasted for his lack of Academy Awards, at which point the Bat-Signal appeared on the wall above Keaton, and the battle with his gold morph-suit adversary began.

In another part of the show, Keaton delivered some stand-up gags, making Boston the butt of the joke, and also donned a McDonald’s uniform for a sketch linked to his role of Ray Kroc in The Founder. During the closing of his presentation, Keaton revealed that he was offered the same award 30 years ago, but could not accept as he was filming at the time and couldn’t make it. Good things come to those who wait.

Keaton joins many other recipients of the accolade, which was established in 1967, with a list including Clint Eastwood, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert De Niro, and, most recently, Jon Hamm.
