Hot off his Sinners success, Michael B. Jordan is turning his attention to a very different kind of affair: The Thomas Crown Affair. The classic heist novel has had two previous film adaptations, one starring Steve McQueen in 1968 and another led by Pierce Brosnan in 1999. However, it has now been nearly 30 years since anyone attempted to put a new spin on the story, which famously centers around a billionaire who steals valuable art and is pursued by an investigator. Movie fans are naturally curious about the modern remake of the high-stakes cat-and-mouse game and, according to Jordan, people should expect the unexpected.
Jordan is producing and directing the new screen version of The Thomas Crown Affair as well as starring in it alongside Adria Arjona as the female lead (replacing Taylor Russell), Kenneth Branagh, Aubrey Plaza, Pilou Asbaek, Paapa Essiedu, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Ruth Negga. Outside its all-star cast, very little is known about the modern adaptation, though it is expected to draw on its big-screen predecessors, keeping the core concept in play, while also offering a fresh take on the story. Jordan let slip a few more details about what audiences can expect from his upcoming reimagining while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter:
“It’s a big movie. It’s international. It’s sexy. It’s a lot of fun. A lot of twists and turns. It’s going to have some things that I think audiences won’t be expecting that might be a nice treat for them.”
