As Barcelona’s presidential campaign gathers pace, Lionel Messi’s name continues to surface, despite the player having no desire to be part of the political noise surrounding the club.
In fact, a recent report from MARCA reveals that banners and indirect references to the Argentine legend are being used by candidates without his knowledge or consent.
Furthermore, according to sources close to Messi, he has not held conversations with any of the presidential hopefuls and does not intend to do so while the electoral process is ongoing.
The Messi agenda
The irony is striking, as Messi has become one of the most talked-about figures in the campaign, yet he has actively chosen to remain on the sidelines.
From the very beginning, he did not want to influence or be associated with any candidacy.
One of the clearest examples came from Marc Ciria, who displayed a banner in Barcelona carrying the phrase “Looking forward to seeing you again.”
Although the message avoided directly naming Messi or showing a clear image of him, the meaning was obvious to supporters.

The gesture created buzz, but it reportedly took Messi’s camp by surprise.
There was also movement from Victor Font. It is said that attempts were made to connect with individuals close to the Argentine.
Those efforts, however, did not lead to direct contact. Font has since explained that any past communication occurred years ago and not with Messi personally.
Then there is Laporta
Meanwhile, the last club president, Joan Laporta, has publicly discussed his relationship with the former captain.
Laporta has spoken about Messi’s departure and the possibility of a testimonial, stating that the final decision rests with the player. For now, though, only Laporta’s perspective has been aired publicly.
As such, Messi’s entourage continues to repeat the same message that there will be no involvement, either openly or quietly.
Even if certain developments in the campaign have not pleased him, he will not intervene.
