MCU’s Mark Ruffalo Candidly Addresses Rumors He Was Fired by Disney

Some would have you believe that Mark Ruffalo‘s days playing the not-so-jolly green giant of the MCU have come to an end, but if that is true, no one has told the man himself. After the actor continued to speak out against the Trump administration in recent weeks, there have been several rumors that Ruffalo has been fired by Disney. The Hulk actor has now smashed those rumors for good.

Ruffalo’s comments were made during his appearance at the Golden Globes ceremony, when the actor blasted the president. After calling out the “literal stormtroopers” of Donald Trump who make up the ICE agents that have now been caught up in the deaths of two U.S. citizens, he said at the time, “[Trump] is a convicted felon, a convicted rapist. He’s a pedophile. He’s the worst human being. If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble.”

It took only days for rumors to start circulating online that Ruffalo’s contract at Disney had been terminated as a result of his views. However, when directly asking about this during an interview promoting his new movie, Crime 101, with Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry, Ruffalo directly shut down the idea that he is no longer part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Not that I know of,” he replied with a smile. “People keep going like, ‘Did you get fired?’ Not that I know of!” Hemsworth interjected to say, “It’s nonsense,” before Ruffalo added, “I’ll be there as long as they’ll have me, but I have a good relationship with them. Who knows, there might be things I’m already doing that… [Laughs] I’m around, let me just say that.”

Mark Ruffalo Is Set To Return as Hulk in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

When Mark Ruffalo took over the role of Bruce Banner from Edward Norton in the MCU, he made the part his own. Since then, he has appeared in several Avengers movies as well as supporting roles in Thor: Ragnarok, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

He will next join Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal in this summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There have been plenty of suggestions about what role he could be playing – from prime antagonist to secondary hero – but for now, it all remains under wraps. With a trailer expected to arrive any day now, perhaps that will give some kind of hint about Banner/Hulk’s role in the movie.

Meanwhile, although Ruffalo has not been announced among the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, it is expected that he will be back regardless for Avengers: Secret Wars. Where Hulk goes beyond that is anyone’s guess, but there are many fans that just want Marvel Studios to sort out rights issues with the character and adapt a “World War Hulk” movie.
