Matt Turner rejoins Revolution on loan from Lyon

Matt Turner is on his way back to MLS.

Turner has returned to his former club New England Revolution on loan through June 2026, the club announced Friday. Turner’s parent club Lyon finalized the signing of the American goalkeeper from Nottingham Forest before sending him back to the United States.

The 30-year-old will serve as a Designated Player for the remainder of 2025 before switching to a TAM-eligible player in 2026.

“When the opportunity arose to bring Matt Turner back to the Revolution, we were glad to act swiftly to welcome one of the most talented players ever to represent the club,” Revs Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said. “Matt’s talent and leadership will make our squad stronger now and in the future. We look forward to having Matt and his family back in New England.”

Turner originally joined the Revolution as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and played there for six years. He later moved to English Premier League club Arsenal before later stops at Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.

He made four appearances for Crystal Palace last season while on loan there. Alongside fellow U.S. men’s national team teammate Chris Richards, Turner earned an FA Cup winners medal last May.

The Revolution are 11th in the Eastern Conference, 10 points out of the final playoff spot.
