Manchester United are in danger of missing out on the services of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, with Juventus preparing a bold transfer move to snap him up.
United want Senesi
Having spent the bulk of their budget on bolstering the attacking department last summer, United are poised to address other areas of the pitch in the next window.
The club’s priority is bringing in midfielders but there is also a need to secure defensive reinforcements, especially amidst uncertainty over the future of Harry Maguire.
Maguire is now into the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford, with no agreement yet reached over an extension. While there is optimism he will stay, as things stand, he is closer to leaving than remaining.
One player who has been linked with United is Senesi. Like Maguire, he is set to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season as a free agent. Since joining Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022, he has quietly been one of the most consistent and reliable central defenders in the Premier League.
He has featured over 100 times for the Cherries, contributing nine goals and seven assists.
Bournemouth have offered Senesi several contract offers but he has rejected them all, seemingly eager to take the next step in his career.
According to TuttoJuve, United are not the only club eyeing Senesi, but Juventus appear to be making the strongest push to land him.
Senesi transfer update
TuttoJuve say that in addition to Juventus and United, the other teams pursuing Senesi are Borussia Dortmund, Brighton and Hove Albion, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona.
The report adds, “Juventus is accelerating its pursuit of Marcos Senesi.”
“According to reports from Tuttojuve.com, contact between the parties is expected between this weekend and early next week.”
It’s understood that the Bianconeri are eager to get ahead of the competition, hence their renewed push for the Argentina international.
United are next in action on February 23 when they go away to Everton.
