Italian journalist Daniele Longo reports that highly sought-after Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United target Rafael Leão is increasingly inclined to remain at AC Milan, with the club already working on extending his long-term future amid interest from three Premier League giants.
Leão has been monitored closely by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, all of whom view the Portuguese international as a transformative attacking signing. But according to Longo’s latest reporting in Italy, the 26-year-old is not pushing for a move and is instead “very happy” in Milan, where he remains a central figure in the club’s long-term sporting project.
AC Milan are reportedly accelerating efforts to update the terms of Leão’s existing contract, which already runs until 2028. The club consider him a pillar of their project and are prepared to recognise his status with improved financial conditions and a more defined leadership role within the squad. Early discussions are said to be progressing positively, with both parties aligned on the desire to continue together.
Leão has repeatedly spoken of his affection for Milan, the supporters and the city, and he has become one of the most popular players in Serie A since arriving from Lille in 2019.
His performances over the past two seasons—characterised by explosive dribbling, acceleration and match-winning contributions—have made him a target for clubs across Europe, particularly the Premier League, where his physical profile and versatility are highly valued.
However, sources in Italy suggest that Leão’s camp believes remaining in Milan offers stability, guaranteed playing time and a team built around his strengths—factors that carry significant weight at this stage of his career.
Why Staying at AC Milan May Be the Best Decision
Staying at Milan may be the most beneficial choice for Leão’s continued development. He is the focal point of the attack, trusted fully by the coaching staff, and consistently deployed in his preferred left-wing role—conditions that may not be guaranteed at Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United.
At Chelsea, squad instability and constant managerial turnover could hinder his development, with no clear long-term tactical identity currently visible. At Arsenal, while the project under Mikel Arteta is stable, competition for wide attacking roles—particularly with players like Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka—raises questions about whether Leão would enjoy the same level of prominence he does in Milan.
Manchester United, meanwhile, remain in a rebuilding phase with major structural changes underway, creating uncertainty about the immediate sporting environment.
Remaining at Milan ensures that Leão continues as one of Serie A’s marquee stars, central to the team’s ambitions domestically and in Europe.
The club’s faith in him, combined with the comfort and continuity he enjoys in Italy, makes a strong case for staying put rather than venturing into the more volatile environments currently presented by his Premier League suitors.
For Milan, securing Leão’s long-term commitment would represent a major victory—both symbolically and on the pitch—as they aim to reaffirm themselves among Europe’s elite.
