March 6 – Manchester City has expanded its global development network with a new collaboration alongside Puma King Club Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA) as part of an initiative that will see the eight-time Premier League champions embed their coaching methodology within the North Carolina-based academy.
Charlotte Soccer Academy – a PUMA sponsored Club since 2019 – is considered one of the brand’s most strategically significant youth partners worldwide.
The new collaboration brings Manchester City directly into that academy fold, with two full-time City coaches set to relocate to Charlotte to work alongside CSA’s leadership, coaching staff and players.
Their focus will centre primarily on CSA’s Foundation Phase programme at Pre-ECNL level, covering the U10 to U12 age groups, where they will push to implement the club’s established Play Model and wider development framework.
The ultimate aim is to help build strong technical foundations, improve decision-making and foster a positive relationship with the game among young players so that City can create a potential pipeline into a generation of budding American talent.
Players involved in the programme will have the opportunity to travel to Manchester each year for competitive matches, offering a chance to experience the club’s football culture first-hand and test themselves in an international setting.
Alongside the direct player development work, the partnership will also balance coach education and curriculum alignment across the academy.
Jorgina Busquets, Managing Director – Football Education, Recreation & Partner Clubs at City Football Group, said: “This partnership with Charlotte Soccer Academy and PUMA represents something genuinely new and exciting for youth soccer in the United States. By embedding Manchester City coaches full-time within a leading grassroots club, we are creating an authentic environment where our coaching methodology can be delivered every day, not just in short bursts…
“Manchester City is committed to increasing its presence in youth soccer in the USA. This is the next step on the journey, and there is much more to come throughout this year and beyond.”
Manchester City has been involved in the ownership of Surf Soccer in California since 2015.
Brad Wylde, CSA Executive Director added: “This partnership represents a major step forward for Charlotte Soccer Academy and reinforces our commitment to provide young players with the highest-quality environment to grow. Manchester City’s staff will be working, not only with our Pre-ECNL teams and players, but also across all of CSA’s U9-U12 competitive programming, adding tremendous value to every part of our youth development pathway and providing unprecedented opportunities for our youngest athletes to learn, develop and thrive under a world-class model.”
