‘Malcom in the Middle’s Frankie Muniz Reveals First Look at Disney+ Revival

‘Malcom in the Middle’s Frankie Muniz Reveals First Look at Disney+ Revival

We now have our first look at the Malcolm in the Middle revival happening at Disney+ thanks to star Frankie Muniz, and it doesn’t look like anyone’s aged a day since the show went off the air nearly 20 years ago. Muniz starred in the FOX sitcom that debuted in 2000 as the titular character of the series, a kid with a genius IQ and photographic memory who had a raging ego. Alongside him were his parents, Lois and Hal, portrayed by Jane Kaczmarek and Bryan Cranston, who are also returning for the revival.

Taking to social media yesterday evening, Muniz shared a photo of himself and his TV parents as filming began on the Malcolm in the Middle revival (seen below). In it, Malcolm is literally in the middle, dressed in a shirt and tie and flanked on both sides by his mom and dad. The three stars all have big smiles on their faces, and who can blame them? This marks a homecoming for all of them, as the series undoubtedly made them all household names when it became one of the most influential sitcoms ever made.

Offbeat, anarchic, and allergic to laugh tracks — these sitcoms carry Malcolm’s torch of domestic mayhem and adolescent rebellion.

Also joining Muniz, Kaczmarek, and Cranston for the Malcolm in the Middle revival are original stars Christopher Kennedy Masterson and Justin Berfield, who will reprise their roles of Malcolm’s siblings, Francis and Reese. Absent will be the original Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan), who will instead be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, as Sullivan left acting some time ago and has no interest in returning. New cast members include Anthony Timpano as Jamie, Vaughan Murrae as Kelly, a new sibling to Malcolm, Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend, Tristan, and Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter, Leah.

‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Won’t Be Back for Long

While other revival shows such as The Conners and Frasier have managed to stick around for multiple seasons, don’t expect the Malcolm in the Middle revival to do the same. It was originally set to be just a two-hour movie before the decision was made to separate it into four, 30-minute episodes, so it’s not something that’s going to be around for long.

That being said, there will still be a lot to savor in the revival series, which centers around Malcolm and his daughter being drawn back into the chaos of his family when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party. We all know what his parents can be like, so it will be fun to see how the wise-cracking Malcolm handles the situation, and to get a glimpse of what their family dynamic is like now that everyone’s older. There’s no word yet on whether he became the President of the United States like Lois wished for him in the series finale.

There’s also no word yet on when the Malcolm in the Middle revival will premiere, but seeing as how there are only four episodes to shoot, it shouldn’t take long for things to wrap up. That means we could either see it later this year, or early in 2026. In the meantime, the original series is now available to stream on both Disney+ and Hulu.
