The U.S. women’s national team used a pair of first-half goals to pick up its 12th and final victory of 2025.
Catarina Macario and Jaedyn Shaw both scored as Emma Hayes’ squad defeated Italy 2-0 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The result extended the USWNT’s current winning run to four matches, giving them a 12-3-0 record in 15 matches this year.
Macario netted her eighth goal of the year, giving the Americans a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Lily Yohannes played a pass upfield for Macario before watching the Chelsea forward chip Italy goalkeeper Francesca Durante with a clever finish.
Shaw doubled the USWNT’s lead four minutes before halftime, delivering a stellar finish of her own. The 21-year-old winger raced into the final third before cutting onto her right foot and stroking a shot into the top-right corner.
It was Shaw’s first goal of the year and her ninth-career USWNT tally.
Emma Sears came close twice in the second half to extend the USWNT’s lead, even hitting the crossbar in the 57th minute.
Shaw and Avery Patterson also had good opportunities denied by Durante, who finished the match with five saves for Italy.
USWNT goalkeeper Claudia Dickey made just one save to preserve her second clean sheet of the window. The USWNT outscored their opposition 41-8 over the calendar year, ending the year on a high note.
Paraguay will oppose the USWNT in both programs’ first match of 2026, a January 24th friendly from Carson, California.
