Liverpool and Arsenal both put their 100% starts to the Premier League season on the line when they face off at Anfield this afternoon.
The champions and runners-up from last term are the only two teams who still have their perfect records intact on the final day of August, but at least one of them will have that honour taken from them by 6:30pm today.
The Gunners haven’t lost in L4 since their 4-0 drubbing in November 2021, but their last top-flight victory at the venue was 13 years ago this week, when Brendan Rodgers was only getting his feet under the table on Merseyside.
Both sides will have key players missing through injury today, with Jeremie Frimpong ruled out for Liverpool and Bukayo Saka sidelined for Mikel Arteta’s side, but which players has Arne Slot included in his starting line-up today?
Liverpool starting XI to face Arsenal
The Reds’ starting XI shows just a solitary change from the one which began the pulsating 3-2 win at Newcastle last Monday.
Alisson Becker is again in goals, with the familiar centre-back pairing of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk ahead of him. Milos Kerkez keeps his place on the left, while Dominik Szoboszlai will again line out at right-back, having deputised excellent in that position at St James’ Park.
For the first time since the title-clinching victory over Tottenham Hotspur four months ago, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister line up together in midfield, rekindling a partnership which excelled last season. Curtis Jones drops to the bench to make way for the returning Argentine.
Florian Wirtz starts in the number 10 role and Hugo Ekitike leads the line, with Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo either side of him.
Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha, both of whom came off the bench to score dramatic late goals in our previous two matches, are among the substitutes again this afternoon.
