‘M3GAN 2.0’ Will Stream on Netflix in January 2026

AI horror sequel M3GAN 2.0 is officially heading over to Netflix after tanking at the box office this year. Directed by Gerard Johnstone once again, the follow-up to 2022 sleeper horror hit M3GAN has already proven to be a success in the streaming realm, having accumulated some serious viewing figures over the Halloween period on Peacock.

Via What’s On Netflix, it’s been announced that M3GAN 2.0 will be available to watch on Netflix US from Monday, January 26, 2026. This is something of a curveball, though, as rival service Prime Video traditionally welcomes Universal Pictures titles straight after Peacock’s four-month rental. Logic would tell us that Prime Video jettisoned the movie in light of its lackluster financial performance, allowing Netflix to sneak in and give its own subscribers the chance to enjoy some artificially intelligent mayhem this New Year.

How Trying To Be ‘Superman’ Led to ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Box Office Fail

When M3GAN 2.0 made less than $40 million in the summer of 2025 — from a $15–25 million budget — Blumhouse Productions CEO Jason Blum told podcaster Matthew Belloni that it was all Superman’s fault. Hear him out, though:

“We all thought M3GAN was like Superman. We could do anything to her. We could change genres, we could put her in the summer, we could make her look different, we could turn her from the bad guy into the good guy. And we kind of classically overthought how powerful people’s engagement was with her.”

What Blum was alluding to here was the fact that M3GAN fans were left scorched by the creative team’s decision to pull a major switcheroo on them: turning the evil robot into a wannabe action hero.

“We decided to genre swap, [and] the audience wasn’t ready to genre swap. Every time you do a sequel, you have to ride this very fine line, which is if you make it too close to the first movie, everyone says, ‘You ripped off the first movie and why’d you make this movie, what a waste of time.’ And if you make it too far away from the first movie, everyone says, ‘Why the fu*k is this a sequel, this has nothing to do with the first movie, and we’re pissed about it.'”

For the MovieWeb review of M3GAN 2.0, writer Will Sayre singled out Jermaine Clement’s appearance as Alton Appleton as a positive addition to the franchise. “The laughs don’t stop with M3GAN’s one-liners once she is reincarnated and becomes one of the “good guys” (or does she?). Watch out for the reliably hysterical Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), who steals his limited scenes as a sleazy Silicon Valley billionaire urging Gemma to team up. Seeing him get caught up in the AMELIA-M3GAN feud is pure entertainment, in more ways than one,” he wrote.

“Following that payoff is a superbly cut-together car chase across Northern California, which combines with shootout sequences to elevate M3GAN 2.0 above simply a Blumhouse thriller. It’s got all the ingredients of a summer popcorn flick — if only the result didn’t stretch out over a full two hours.”

Can Netflix heal its damaged reputation? Subscribers will be able to stream M3GAN 2.0 once it arrives on the platform this January.
