Lorenzo Pellegrini has been a hot topic for Gasperini’s team all summer long.
Upon the arrival of the Piedmontese coach, who immediately removed the Roman player’s armband in favor of a system based on appearances, many questions on the Giallorossi bench revolved around the future of the number 7 and his expiring contract: the coach has always responded that it’s a matter between the club and the player.
The midfielder missed part of the training camp and upon his return, he got to know the man in charge of training and his demands. The September 21 derby marked a turning point: Pellegrini started for the first time under Gasperini and scored the winning goal.
The 1996-born player has so far scored three goals and provided one assist in 552 minutes.
According to Il Corriere della Sera, this is his best start since José Mourinho’s first season.
Tomorrow in Cremona, Gasperini has several ballots to resolve, but he will most likely choose the number 7 to complete the attacking trio.
The player, whose contract expires in June, must resolve the renewal issue with the club.
The player’s hefty salary (€6 million) is putting a damper on any discussions, and contacts will be re-established in the spring.
Compared to this summer, when it seemed the player was destined to leave the capital no matter what, the situation is different.
Something is changing: a January departure is not a given, barring irresistible offers, and the number 7 can still rewrite his future in Rome.
