Liverpool were left waiting on a decision over RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko’s future on Tuesday, as they prepare another bid for Alexander Isak.
Liverpool’s Isak pursuit hinges on Sesko
Having seen their first official bid for Newcastle striker Isak rejected, Liverpool are left waiting for the dominoes to fall in the centre-forward market.
The headline name in this regard is Sesko, who is wanted by both Newcastle and Man United – and if he decides to join the Magpies, it could then free Isak up for a move.
However, Liverpool find themselves reliant on a decision from the Slovenian’s current club, Leipzig, who have now received offers from both of his Premier League suitors.
The Athletic‘s David Ornstein reports that Man United have submitted a bid worth up to €85 million, while Newcastle are reported to have offered a €90 million package.
Sesko has agreed personal terms with both clubs, claims Sky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg, meaning Liverpool’s hopes of clinching a deal for Isak in the near future could hinge on whether Leipzig shake hands with Newcastle or Man United.
Quite why any player with elite ambitions would join Man United is beyond us!

Pre-season is a time for learning, not just for the players, but also us supporters, especially when there are so many new players involved.
We went ran through 18 things we learned from Liverpool’s two friendlies in a day – including Rio Ngumoha‘s potential:
“Rio reminds you of Michael Owen…in the very best possible way!
“When Owen burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old, there were similar reactions – or should we say disbelief. Owen was the last Liverpool player to win the Ballon d’Or and it isn’t too ridiculous to think that Rio might be the next.
“Generational talents force themselves into the first-team no matter their age.”

Liverpool FC: On this day
On this day in 1975, Ian Callaghan was shown his first-ever yellow card for Liverpool in a 2-0 friendly win over Dortmund.
It was widely deemed an incorrect decision, however, and coming in a friendly it was not officially recorded.
Incredibly, despite making 857 appearances for Liverpool in competitive games – the most of any player in the club’s history – Callaghan was only ever booked ONCE.
That came in a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in a replay of the League Cup final in 1978.
