Fotmob stats revealed Liverpool star Harvey Elliott produced a strong midfield performance despite the club’s 2-3 loss to PSV Eindhoven. PSV beat the Reds 2-3 on their home turf during the last Champions League League-Phase game of the current season.
Liverpool have still finished at the top of the Champions League League-Phase table despite the loss, pitching a young side. The Reds’ head coach Arne Slot used the game to rest the majority of the senior players in the squad.
Slot used several Academy players while playing left-back Andy Robertson as a make-shift centre-back along with a few senior players. As one of the senior players, Elliott had the responsibility as a number 10 to influence the attack against PSV.
The 21-year-old English midfielder has gained plenty of experience in the previous reign under the legendary Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. However, an unfortunate injury during the early stages of the current season impeded his chance to impress the new coach.
Nevertheless, Slot has used Elliott regularly and most of his first-team restrictions are due to the form of other midfielders. Liverpool have enjoyed a successful season so far, currently at the top of the Premier League with a six-point lead.
Fotmob stats revealed that Elliott enjoyed 77% passing accuracy from 61 passes against PSV while scoring the second goal for Liverpool. The 21-year-old had 70 touches with four coming in the opposition box, enjoying 100% dribbles and six passes into the final third. The young Englishman received a yellow card for diving despite not asking for a penalty as a PSV player impeded his path.
Defensively, Elliott made two interceptions and eight recoveries and completed three defensive actions while winning 100% ground duels (one). The Englishman scored the first goal too which the referee chalked off in favour of Liverpool’s penalty which Cody Gakpo eventually converted.

Elliott faces competition from in-form Dominik Szoboszlai along with currently-injured Curtis Jones. In the absence of Jones, Elliott has a good opportunity to establish himself as a serious first-team competitor for the advanced midfield position under Slot.
