Liverpool are in need of a new centre-back this summer and they have been linked with three young options in that position.
Jarell Quansah‘s move to Bayer Leverkusen has increased the need for the Reds to add to their central defensive options.
At 34, Virgil van Dijk needs to be managed carefully, while Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez have been injury-plagued throughout their careers.
According to the Mail‘s Lewis Steele, Liverpool have scouted a trio of young centre-backs.
The players in question are Joel Ordonez of Club Brugge, Wolfsburg’s Konstantinos Koulierakis and highly rated Parma defender Giovanni Leoni.
They have all been noted as potential options by Liverpool’s scouts, but no significant progress has been made yet.
Guehi and a young centre-back for Liverpool?
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi looks to be Liverpool’s leading centre-back target currently, although they are unwilling to match Palace’s demands.
Recent reports have suggested that the England international’s asking price may have dropped, but the Reds don’t want to be drawn into a “long saga.”
Ideally, Liverpool need to sign one proven centre-back in the mould of Guehi – one who is willing to not necessarily start every week – as well as a younger option.
At 21, Ordonez has already become a key man for Brugge, starting 12 games in the Champions League last season.
The Ecuador international is also capable of playing at right-back, which Arne Slot may like, in terms of squad depth.
Koulierakis represents a better left-sided centre-back option, with his left foot adding balance to Liverpool’s back-line.
Meanwhile, Leoni is a huge prospect for Parma, already making 17 appearances for them at the age of 18, and he has been capped by Italy at both U19 and U18 level.
All three players stand out as exciting targets for Liverpool, but as the report mentions, no concrete approaches have been made yet.
