The latest in a line of live-action Disney remakes, Tangled will bring Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, or Eugene Fitzherbert, depending on who you ask, back to the big screen. The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, and recently, Disney announced that Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will fill the lead roles.
Ever since the original film’s 2010 release, Flynn has become a favorite among fans for his sarcastic sense of humor and surprising emotional depth. As such, speculation over who would be cast to play such a beloved character has been intense. However, now that Manheim has been cast, that speculation has shifted into excitement for some and trepidation for others.
One such fan who shared their enthusiasm was artist and content creator @braeden.obrien over on Instagram. They shared a video in which they drew Manheim in character as Flynn, set to the iconic track “I See The Light.” The art, which highlights the physical similarities between Manheim and the original animated Flynn, prompted enthusiastic responses from fans, with one writing: “The movie hasn’t even started filming and people are already fangirling.“
Shortly after news of his casting broke, the actor took to Instagram to express his excitement. “Too grateful to put into words,” Manheim wrote in his story. “I will do him justice, I promise.”
Flynn’s original voice actor, Zachary Levi, has also weighed in on the casting. The Chuck star commented on Manheim’s instagram post: “Congrats, Milo! Now go do Eugene Fitzherbert proud.” Disney’s official Instagram account also contributed, quipping, “Here comes the smolder!“
Manheim is no stranger to Disney, having starred in Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise alongside Meg Donnelly. For her part, Croft, who often shares videos of herself singing, is most well known for her role as Rachel Roth/Raven in Titans. As of right now, no one has been cast as the villainous Mother Gothel, though Agatha All Along star Kathryn Hahn is reportedly in consideration.
No release date has been set for the Tangled remake, though it is slated to begin production in mid-2026 in the UK.
