Lavelle, Biyendolo, Girma headline USWNT camp roster for June-July window

The U.S. women’s national team’s busy summer continues with a three-match window in June and July.

Rose Lavelle, Lynn Biyendolo, and Naomi Girma headlined Emma Hayes’ 25-player roster for the upcoming camp roster. Hayes will dress 23 players for each of the upcoming friendlies against the Republic of Ireland (June 26 and June 29 in Commerce City, Colorado and Cincinnati, Ohio) and Canada (June 2 in Washington, D.C.).

24 of the 25 players called into camp currently play their club soccer in the NWSL, with Chelsea’s Girma being included as the lone European-based player. Defenders Jordyn Bugg, Lilly Reale and Izzy Rodriguez, and midfielder Sam Meza all earned their first senior call-ups.

Lavelle makes her return to the USWNT squad for the first time in over six months. She had been sidelined due to ankle surgery but returns as one of the veteran leaders on the current roster.

Biyendolo, Girma, Emily Sonnett, and Alyssa Thompson join Lavelle as the only players to have earned 10 or more caps to date in their USWNT careers.

“We want to continue to improve our understanding of how we want to play and widen the player pool, and those are some of the key goals of this three-game window,” said Hayes. “On this roster, we have players with a varied amount of experience, and my priority is to deepen the exposures required for international soccer. These are three challenging matches and as always, we want to win, but also to make sure we are ready for the next steps.” 

Canada head into the summer international window ranked No. 8 in the World Rankings while the Republic of Ireland are No. 25.
