One of the many shows in the repertoire of Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan
is getting a new series, and a new update from its leading star is sure to excite and concern fans in equal measure. Billy Bob Thornton
, who leads Landman as old-school oil man Tommy Norris, has declared his hopes for much more of the show in the future…while revealing something a little worrying about the development of Season 2.
Speaking with Gold Derby recently, Thornton stated that Landman “is a show I’d like to work on for a while. I told Taylor, I said as long as you want me around, I’m here for this. I really love the show. I love doing it, I love playing this character, and I love the people I work with. Not only the cast, but the crew also is just stellar.”

The Oscar-nominated writer behind ‘Sicario’ is headed back to cinemas with a new action thriller film starring Brandon Sklenar.
Clearly, Thornton loves working with Sheridan and the cast and crew involved on Landman, with the Academy Award-winning actor hoping to lead the series for as long as he’s able.
“I’ll be there as long as they want me, and as long as I’m able. I mean, you know, when I was 35, I didn’t have to say that to someone who was interviewing me. But now the truth is at some point, I’m hoping it’s years from now, but there will be a time where I might have to do like a Peter Boyle on Everybody Loves Raymond, and just go sit in a chair and eat cake.”
Billy Bob Thornton Hasn’t Seen All the Scripts for ‘Landman’ Season 2… For Some Reason
However, while Billy Bob Thornton is eager to make much more Landman far beyond Season 2, the actor revealed something curious about the latest series. Continuing, the actor said he has not seen all the scripts for Landman Season 2, unlike the first outing. This is very unlike Taylor Sheridan’s modus operandi, with the producer, writer, and director well-known for planning things out and sticking to the script, and will no doubt have fans of the series a little worried.
“Last year we had every episode when we started. We do not this year. We’ve only seen about half of it. I can tell you this much. I’m loving this season, the relationships are really growing and gelling, not only as actors, but with the characters. The first season of anything, you’re explaining everything to everybody and the trick to writing things like that is to not make it seem like exposition, and I thought Taylor did a wonderful job of that in Season 1.”
Landman Season 2 is now in the middle of production, with the show set to return on Paramount+ this fall. The reason why Thornton has not seen all the scripts is currently unknown, but it could be that either things have not come together as planned behind the scenes, or that Sheridan wants to keep some of the events a secret. Even from his leading man.
Alongside Billy Bob Thornton, Landman Season 2 brings in Demi Moore as a series regular and adds Sam Elliott to the fray. The rest of the cast features Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman is inspired by Wallace’s podcast “Boomtown,” and you can check out the official synopsis below.
“In the heart of Texas, roughnecks and billionaires try to get rich quick in the oil industry; Tommy Norris, a struggling executive, tries to take his company to the top during the fuel boom.”
