‘Kraven the Hunter’ to Stream on Netflix Next Month

The critically panned Spider-Man spin-off (which ultimately brought Sony’s ill-thought-out shared universe to an end), Kraven the Hunter

is ready to enact brutal vengeance on Netflix

next month. The comic book action outing, which stars Kick-Ass and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson

as the Marvel antihero, caused yet another divide between critics and audiences at the time, with the latter crowd no doubt excited to be able to stream Kraven at home.

Kraven the Hunter will be available to stream on Netflix in the United States on March 13, 2025, according to What’s on Netflix. Directed by J. C. Chandor (Triple Frontier, A Most Violent Year) from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, Kraven the Hunter tells the origin of the Marvel character, much like Venom before it. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for “The Amazing Spider-Man” #15 back in 1964, Kraven the Hunter follows the title character on a violent vendetta…and does not include the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler. ‘Kraven the Hunter’ Concept Art Teases the Cut Venom Scene We Never Saw

Concept art for ‘Kraven the Hunter’ shows a cut sequence that might have teased an adaptation of ‘Planet of the Symbiotes’ and a showdown with Venom.

“Kraven the Hunter is the action-packed, R-rated, standalone story of how one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless gangster father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.”

Critics struggled to find anything to like about Kraven the Hunter, with the Sony/Marvel outing now branded with a green splat alongside a “rotten” rating of just 16%. “Claiming no trophies with its rote story and shoddy special effects, Kraven the Hunter turns out to be a paper tiger,” the critics’ consensus reads. In contrast, audiences found a lot to enjoy in the bloody and brutal comic book outing, with Kraven the Hunter earning a score of 73% on the Popcornmeter.

MovieWeb’s own Mark Keizer was kinder to Kraven the Hunter than many, but nonetheless concluded that the movie was “Not as Bad as Expected but Still Bad Enough,” taking issue with Sony’s approach to these ill-advised solo stories about Spider-Man villain. But without any Spider-Man or villainy.

“Whether he’s killing poachers who are slaughtering animals for their horns or trying to rescue his younger brother from kidnappers, Kraven’s actions are only anti-heroic because he’s extremely violent. Charting the journey of a hero who becomes a villain only works when we’re convinced of the second part. Here we’re provided nary a clue as to how he went from teenage, animal-loving Sergei (played by Levi Miller) to the villainous Kraven, the indefatigable hunter of Spider-Man.”

Comprised of the Venom franchise, Morbius, and Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter brought the Sony Spider-Man Universe to an end with a whimper rather than a roar. The movie only managed to gross $62 million worldwide on a budget of $130 million, making it a major box-office bomb.
