It’s Christmaaaaaas! Well, almost, and movie fans have taken to social media to urge audiences to sit in front of the TV and stream a particularly festive Netflix
movie this year. Released back in 2019, the animated Christmas adventure comedy, Klaus
, was met with rave reviews at the time, but remains a largely unsung and underrated movie of the genre. But, could that all be about to change in 2024?
Co-written, co-produced, and directed by Sergio Pablos in his directorial debut, Klaus boasts a hugely impressive 95% from critics and 96% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. “Beautiful hand-drawn animation and a humorous, heartwarming narrative make Klaus an instant candidate for holiday classic status,” the critics’ consensus reads.
Featuring an all-star cast that includes Jason Schwartzman, Rashida Jones, Will Sasso, Neda Margrethe Labba, Sergio Pablos, Joan Cusack, and Norm Macdonald in one of his final roles, Klaus centers on a selfish postman and a reclusive toymaker who form an unlikely friendship, delivering joy to a cold, dark town that desperately needs it. Incidentally, Klaus also stars J.K. Simmons as the titular Klaus a.k.a. Santa Claus, with the Oscar-winner having, of course, played the Christmas icon in this year’s (far less well-received) Red One.
Audiences Are Now Urging Others to Watch ‘Klaus’ This Christmas
Klaus has now become a Christmas staple for some, with many now urging others to discover the movie and add it to their festive roster. “Watched KLAUS cause I needed to be in the Christmas spirit and I’m bawling by the sincerity and sheer breathtaking artistry in its storytelling and 2D animation. It’s such a timeless gem that deserves more flowers. Sergio Pablos where are you? We miss you!” says X/Twitter user @rendy_jones.
Fellow fan @ManRitan adds, “Klaus, hands down the best christma movie of the current year that isnt another Christmas carol that was criminally overlooked and ignored by huge majority of people because its 2d and because Netflix put the release of the film in November and barely market it because its 2d.” While @AaronQuinn716 declares Klaus a “top 5 Christmas movie and gets better every year we watch it,” with @DanYunIsTrying saying, “I have recency bias but after marathoning some Christmas films, I think Klaus is cracking my top 5 Christmas films. apologies for not seeing it sooner.”
