Liverpool have been vying to bring in quality players at Anfield Stadium when the summer transfer window comes around, as chiefs at Kirkby loom to back Arne Slot with marquee incomings to support his playing style.
Given how the Dutch head coach has to make do with the majority of players from his predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, and in order to make a highlight transfer, the Reds have been eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s highly technical midfielder cum right back, Joshua Kimmich. This is according to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
Rising competition to his signature…
Kimmich has been one of the most technical players in world football for years now, and bringing his quality and pause on the ball can take the Reds very far on the tactical outlay of the games under Slot.
The 30-year-old is nearing the conclusion of his contract with the German giants, and he is highly likely to leave his current employers, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, and Real Madrid expressing interest alongside the Merseysiders. Signing Kimmich on a possible Bosman deal would be one of the highlights of the summer window.
Can Liverpool convince Kimmich?
For Liverpool, adding Kimmich into the lineup opens up possibilities. Slot can use him in the right-back role if Trent Alexander-Arnold is to depart at the end of the ongoing campaign; alternatively, he can be used as a base of the midfield as well as in the number six role.
His quality will replicate in the squad wherever he plays, but that being said, it is going to be difficult to sign a player of his ability and convince him, especially if the likes of TAA, Salah, and Van Dijk are to depart L4.
