Kieran Culkin has revealed that he didn’t know his brother, Macaulay Culkin, was the star of Home Alone until the premiere, despite having a role in the movie himself. The younger Culkin brother portrayed Fuller in the cast of Home Alone, while his older brother played the lead character, Kevin. While his role in the film isn’t as large as his older brother’s, it was his first time onscreen, leading to the blossoming career he’s been able to carry ever since.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times about his new movie A Real Pain alongside co-star Jesse Eisenberg, Culkin admitted he had no idea what Home Alone was about when he first saw the movie. He also said that Devin Ratray convinced him that Buzz, Ratray’s character, was the protagonist of the movie. He didn’t find out Macaulay was the real main character until watching the premiere, after which it started to make sense to him. Check out what Culkin had to say below:

I had no idea what that movie was about when I saw it, and I was in it. I was at the premiere, and I was dying laughing. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I had no idea what the movie was about.

‘Drink this Coke, wear the glasses, say the thing that you memorized, look cute and go home.’ Devin Ratray, the guy who plays Buzz, lied to me and told me the movie was all about him. And I believed him. And then when I saw it, the movie’s cracking me up, and I go, ‘Mac was on set all the time. That makes sense the movie would be about him.’

More to come…
