Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is as much a fan of Marvel movies as he is the overseer of their creation. For that reason, just like millions of MCU fans, he is looking forward to some upcoming releases more than others, and while speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige revealed which of Marvel Studios’ new wave of releases he is most excited about and why.
There are many new movies on the cards, with some big introductions, highly anticipated returns, and, of course, the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. For Feige though, one of the most important is The Fantastic Four: First Steps. As the movie heads towards the end of its production, Feige shared his unbound enthusiasm for the latest iteration of one of the Marvel superhero teams that has often failed to live up to its potential on the big screen. He said:
“Well, I’m excited about all of them, but I would say…’Fantastic Four.’ Again, talk about trying to bring something to life for 25 years, that is one, finally bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU. And that cast that you listed a few minutes ago is just so great. They wrap next week, we finish, the movie comes out this summer, and then all of those characters go right into our next ‘Avengers’ movie, so I’m very excited for the future of the Fantastic Four.”
The Fantastic Four’s Inclusion in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is Confirmed
Although it was expected that the Fantastic Four would have a big part to play in the future of the MCU, Feige’s comments confirmed that Mr. Fantastic will be leading his team into Avengers: Doomsday, which could potentially make the summer’s release even more of a draw for Marvel fans.
The MCU has been struggling to capture the attention of fans in the last few years. Following the incredible Avengers: Endgame, fans went into several subsequent movies with expectations that were simply not met. The biggest reason for the drop in interest appeared to be a combination of an overwhelming number of Marvel projects being released in quick succession, and a significant decrease in the scope of movies like Black Widow. While Deadpool & Wolverine provided a high point this past summer, the big test of how a lack of superhero movies in 2024 has impacted the appetite of audiences to head back into cinemas in 2025 will come with February’s release of Captain America: Brave New World.

By the time Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in cinemas in July, Marvel Studios will be hoping to see those box office receipts heading towards the magic $1 billion mark again on a more regular basis. It looks like there will be some big changes coming to the company’s output following the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, so maybe audiences should make the most of what they receive in the next two years, as they may never see this level of content again.
