Noah Oppenheim, the writer behind Kathryn Bigelow’s new Netflix movie A House of Dynamite, offers an update on his next thriller, which will reunite iconic co-stars Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. The Zero Dark Thirty director collaborated with Oppenheim to craft this feature film about the White House facing a nuclear missile strike, which is now streaming on Netflix.
Oppenheim is known for writing Pablo Larraín’s Jackie, as well as producing the recent political thriller miniseries Zero Day. He also wrote 2014’s The Maze Runner and 2016’s The Divergent Series: Allegiant, and is co-writing an upcoming, untitled Jack Ryan project as well as working on his untitled Amazon MGM Studios romantic thriller starring Reeves and Bullock.
In a new interview with The Playlist, Oppenheim said about the mysterious thriller: “I’m deep in it, writing as we speak.” He also emphasized the exciting reunion between Reeves and Bullock: “I think the genre is thriller, but it puts the two of them together in a way that captures the unique and exceptional chemistry that people love when they share the screen. They’re incredible to work with and very hands-on.“
Reeves and Bullock’s careers have flourished since their first collaboration on 1994’s Speed, which remains a staple of the action genre. Reeves has entirely redefined action movies, taking on his most iconic roles after this point. He first played Neo in The Matrix in 1999, and then kicked off the John Wick series in 2014. He has undoubtedly starred in some of the best action movies of all time.
Bullock has starred in a wide range of movies, proving her acting chops in the action, drama, comedy, and thriller genres, with titles including Miss Congeniality, Gravity, Ocean’s Eight, Bird Box, Bullet Train, and more. She is also soon reprising her iconic role as Sally Owens in the forthcoming Practical Magic 2. Reeves also has several more upcoming projects, while his new movie, Good Fortune, just hit theaters.
Reeves and Bullock went on to star in 2006’s The Lake House together, their most recent on-screen collaboration. Reportedly, Oppenheim and producer Mark Gordon brought the idea to the leading duo, who agreed to develop it with them. The plot remains under wraps, but is described as a “propulsive” romantic thriller by Amazon MGM, with no director attached yet.
Bullock is producing through Fortis Films, with Reeves, Mark Gordon, and Bibby Dunn producing under The Mark Gordon Company, and Oppenheim and Sarah Bremner with Prologue Entertainment. But A House of Dynamite, which is getting some Oscar buzz, perhaps more than anything, proves we should all be on the lookout for Oppenheim’s new thriller.
