I don’t want to wait…to see Dawson’s Creek alums Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson on the small screen once again! Deadline reported that Holmes will write, direct and star in an upcoming film series titled Happy Hours. And guess who’s set to play her love interest? Her former on-screen boyfriend from Dawson’s Creek, of course. That’s right, Jackson and Holmes will reunite in the new dramedy, where the Dawson’s Creek stars will play a couple who are trying to work through the “challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love,” but there seems to be a series of obstacles standing in their way. Deadline describes the film trilogy as a “character-driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young lovers who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope.”
And we couldn’t think of two actors better suited for the roles. Holmes and Jackson’s characters, Joey Potter and Pacey Witter, dated on Dawson’s Creek. Despite their characters ending up together by the end of the series, the young stars briefly dated in real life while filming season one — but they broke up after a year. While some Dawson’s Creek fans may be over the moon about this recent casting news, Holmes couldn’t be more excited about starring alongside her former castmate once again. In an exclusive interview with People, Holmes talked about how happy she is to share the big screen with Jackson after all these years. She told the outlet:
“I am so very grateful to be working again with so many of my wonderful friends on this film Happy Hours. And working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship. Happy Hours is a love story that includes so many people I adore. We can’t wait for everyone to see what we make.”

Could There Be a ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Reboot in the Future?
The last time the cast of Dawson’s Creek reunited was for the show’s 20th anniversary back in March 2018. Since then, fans have been holding their breath for a possible reboot. And with Holmes and Jackson reuniting for this latest project, we wouldn’t be surprised if some fans started expressing their desire for a new Dawson’s Creek reboot on social media. But don’t hold your breath: Back in 2022, Holmes sat down with ScreenRant and shared her thoughts on a revival series. While she is grateful for the love Dawson’s Creek has received over the years, Holmes (along with the other cast members) previously discussed how they have no desire to reboot the series. At the time, she said:
“No [laughs]. I’m so grateful for that experience. We’ve definitely talked about it over the years, but I feel like that show captured that time period and that time in all of our lives. So I think it’s great that you are nostalgic for it. So am I. But it’s like, do we want to see them not at that age? I don’t know. I don’t think [so]. We all decided we don’t actually.”
Currently, Happy Hours has started filming. On Monday, July 21, Holes and Jackson were photographed shooting a scene from the movie on the streets of New York. At the moment, further casting details and a possible release date have not been released. So, who knows? Maybe another Dawson’s Creek star could make a small cameo in the upcoming film.
