Julian Alvarez opens up ad gives Arsenal big transfer boost

Arsenal have reportedly been handed encouragement in their pursuit of Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez after the Argentine forward refused to rule out a move away from La Liga this summer.

The striker has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League in recent months, with Arsenal among the clubs closely monitoring his situation in Madrid. After Atlético’s recent victory over Tottenham Hotspur in European competition, Álvarez admitted that he is unsure where he will be playing next season, comments that have fuelled further speculation about his future.

Asked whether he would be at Atletico Madrid next season, Alvarez said: ‘I don’t know, I might be, or I might not. I’m happy. I’m thinking about the day to day.’

Álvarez joined Atlético Madrid in 2024 after leaving Manchester City, signing a long-term deal reportedly worth around €95 million. Since arriving in Spain, he has remained a key figure in Diego Simeone’s attack, scoring consistently and demonstrating the work rate and versatility that made him one of Europe’s most coveted forwards.

Arsenal’s interest is believed to be driven in part by sporting director Andrea Berta, who previously spent more than a decade at Atlético Madrid and maintains strong connections with the Spanish club. Reports suggest ARSENAL have already made informal enquiries to assess whether a deal could be possible during the upcoming transfer window.

The striker is thought to command a transfer fee in the region of £85-90 million if Atlético were to consider selling. Despite that valuation, Arsenal view Álvarez as a potential long-term solution at centre-forward and a player capable of elevating their attacking options.

Would Álvarez Be the Right Replacement for Viktor Gyökeres?

If ARSENAL were to sign Julián Álvarez as a replacement for Viktor Gyökeres, it would represent a significant shift in attacking style at the Emirates.

Gyökeres is a powerful, physically dominant striker who thrives when running in behind defenders and attacking space. Álvarez, by contrast, is a far more fluid forward. His greatest strengths lie in movement, pressing and linking play with teammates.

That difference could actually benefit Arsenal’s tactical structure under Mikel Arteta. Álvarez excels in high-pressing systems and is comfortable dropping into midfield areas to create overloads, which aligns perfectly with the positional play Arteta prefers.

Another key advantage is experience. Álvarez has already won the World Cup with Argentina and major honours with Manchester City, meaning he understands the demands of competing for trophies.

The biggest question would be goals. While he contributes across the attack, he is not always a traditional 25-goal-per-season striker. ARSENAL would need consistent scoring output to justify a fee approaching £90 million.

However, if the aim is to add intelligence, relentless pressing and big-game experience to the frontline, Álvarez could be one of the most impactful signings Arsenal could make.
