Action movie favorite Jason Statham goes head-to-head with a fellow action movie icon in this panned action thriller that’s now ready to wage war on free streaming. The Stath continues to find huge success in the action thriller genre, with the actor and martial artist kick-starting two new franchises in recent years with The Beekeeper and A Working Man. Sadly, this effort from 2007 was always destined to be one and done.
Directed by Philip G. Atwell in his directorial debut and featuring fight scenes choreographed by the late, great Corey Yuen of The Transporter fame, the action thriller War stars Jason Statham as a bruised FBI agent on the hunt for a mysterious assassin, played by martial arts icon Jet Li. War is all set to hit the free streaming platform Tubi on December 1, 2025, and you can check out the official synopsis below…
“After his partner and family are killed, FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) becomes obsessed with revenge on an assassin named Rogue (Jet Li). Rogue’s return sparks a violent war between rival Asian mobsters Chang (John Lone) and Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi), while the ultimate showdown between Crawford and Rogue reveals the truth.”
‘War’ Is Worth Watching Just to See Jason Statham & Jet Li Share the Screen
Sadly, War was savaged by critics upon release and holds a score of just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus reading, “Jet Li and Jason Statham find themselves on opposing sides in the immensely boring War, which is full of clichés but short on action.” Audiences had a more divisive response to the action thriller, with War landing a score of 51% on the Popcornmeter. While War may not have been the blistering action epic that fans of Statham and Li had hoped for, it’s well worth checking out anyway, if only to see the two action legends exchange fists.
Jason Statham continues to fly the flag for gloriously no-nonsense action movies. This year, The Stath took the lead in the Sylvester Stallone-scripted and David Ayer directed A Working Man, which proved to be another big hit for the action star at both the box office and on streaming. The Stath shows no signs of slowing down following the release of A Working Man, which pits him against human traffickers after his friend’s daughter is kidnapped. The actor and martial artist is all set to lead Plane director Jean-François Richet’s Mutiny; will join forces with Nobody 2 and The Shadow Strays director Timo Tjahjanto for The Beekeeper 2, which has now been picked up for distribution by Amazon MGM Studios; and will reunite with director Guy Ritchie for the pair’s long-gestating action crime thriller and Layer Cake semi-sequel, Viva La Madness.
But next up is Shelter, which sees Statham teaming up with Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh. Set for release on January 30, 2026, Shelter sees the popular action star taking the lead as a recluse living on a remote Scottish island who, after rescuing a girl, unleashes a perilous sequence of events that culminate in an attack on his home, compelling him to face his turbulent history.
