James Marsden’s Cyclops Suits Up With Iconic X-Men Costume In New Avengers: Doomsday Art

James Marsden dons Cyclops’ iconic X-Men suit in new Avengers: Doomsday art that shows what the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie needs to do. Marsden’s last time as Scott Summers was in a cameo role in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Before that, the actor appeared in three X-Men movies in Fox’s original mutant franchise.

Now, multiple actors from the original X-Men movies are coming back as part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. While the X-Men’s role and the story of the next Avengers movie have yet to be revealed, The Marvels‘ post-credits scene teased that the heroes will come from a full-fledged universe. That could include the X-Men’s team costumes.

On Instagram, artist @spdrmnkyxxiii imagined what James Marsden’s Cyclops could look like in Avengers: Doomsday with his comics-accurate suit.

The MCU fan art sees the actor donning Cyclops’ yellow and blue X-Men costume from the comics, complete with the yellow visor and the small red and black X-Men symbol. Marvel Studios notably used that look for the character on Disney+’s X-Men ’97.

Marsden’s Cyclops is tied to 2000’s X-Men’s most famous line, “What would you prefer? Yellow spandex?” At the time, comics-accurate costumes made way for darker designs for Marvel mutants in live-action. However, the world is very different now, and the MCU fully embraces more vibrant and comics-accurate designs for many of its characters.

That was especially proven for the X-Men in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. After 24 years, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine finally wore his yellow X-Men costume for the first time in his MCU debut. The look even included Logan’s menacing mask with white eyes. With Marvel having recently given Wolverine a comics-accurate suit, it would make sense that Cyclops and the other X-Men will follow.

Well, it seems like that might have already been confirmed for the next Avengers movie. In September, Avengers: Doomsday character designs seemingly leaked on Instagram. Makeup artist @giponci shared an image that featured all the major confirmed heroes and villains for the 2026 Avengers movie. The image revealed icons for all characters, with many of them having updated costumes.

Aside from Channing Tatum’s Gambit, whose suit was revealed in Deadpool & Wolverine, the other X-Men set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday all had their costumes revealed. In the image, James Marsden’s Cyclops wears the same iconic yellow and blue suit he dons in the new MCU fan art. As such, Marvel fans should get their wish in Avengers: Doomsday.
