James Cameron’s ‘The Terminator’ Is Now Streaming for Free

James Cameron’s ‘The Terminator’ Is Now Streaming for Free

One of, if not the greatest, science fiction action movie ever made (this is not an exaggeration or hyperbolic in any way) is now streaming free. Released during the glorious cinematic decade that was the 1980s, 1984’s The Terminator
is one of the most seminal examples of the genre, and made an icon of director James Cameron
and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger
, Michael Biehn, and Linda Hamilton. And you can now watch this slice of sci-fi brilliance without spending a dime.

Directed by James Cameron who, of course, has since gone on to become one of the most successful filmmakers of all time with the likes of Titanic and the Avatar franchise and written by Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd, The Terminator tells that age-old tale of a girl and a guy. Except, in this case, the girl’s unborn son is destined to save mankind from a hostile artificial intelligence, and the guy is a soldier from the future sent to save her. Oh, and there’s a second guy, but he’s not really a guy. He is, in fact, a cybernetic assassin sent back in time to kill the girl. The Terminator is all now available to stream on Tubi
, and you can check out the official synopsis below.

“Disguised as a human, a cyborg assassin known as a Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), who divulges the coming of Skynet, an artificial intelligence system that will spark a nuclear holocaust. Sarah is targeted because Skynet knows that her unborn son will lead the fight against them. With the virtually unstoppable Terminator in hot pursuit, she and Kyle attempt to escape.”

‘Terminator’ Will Be Back as James Cameron Is Now Working On a Secret Project

The Terminator is now a bona fide classic, and boasts a perfect score of 100% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. “With its impressive action sequences, taut economic direction, and relentlessly fast pace, it’s clear why The Terminator continues to be an influence on sci-fi and action flicks,” the critics’ consensus reads. Which should be more than enough to convince you to either watch the movie again, or discover it for the first time. If you’re in the latter group, you need to take stock of your life, stop reading this and fill this action movie blind spot.

With the recent news that James Cameron is writing a new Terminator Movie, we thought it would be a great idea to talk about the franchise as a whole.

The Terminator series is now one of the best-known franchises of all time, spawning all manner of sequels, spin-offs, comics, video games, and everything else in between. While the franchise peaked with the first two movies, that doesn’t mean the world of The Terminator can’t still deliver. The recent Netflix anime series, Terminator Zero, was met with much acclaim, and now holds an impressive score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

James Cameron, meanwhile, is not done with the franchise. Speaking to THR in August last year, the filmmaker revealed that he is now working on a secret project. Which would bring the director, who has largely just been on board as a producer since helming Terminator 2: Judgment Day back in 1991, back to the franchise he started all those decades ago.

“I’m working on my own Terminator stuff right now. It’s got nothing to do with that. Like with The Sarah Connor Chronicles, they occasionally touched on things I had been playing with completely independently. So there’s some curiosity there. It’s not a burning curiosity, but, obviously, it’d be nice to see it succeed.”
