New details regarding who will play the next James Bond in Amazon’s upcoming reboot of the action franchise have now been revealed, and while we don’t yet know exactly who will land the coveted moniker of 007, we can at least narrow things down. However, while details such as a “fresh face” being sought for the role surely rules out long-time favorites Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Idris Elba, some James Bond fans are undeterred and still want this ungentlemanly actor to lead Bond into his next chapter.
Despite the new report, which came out yesterday and revealed that the production and director Denis Villeneuve are seeking “an unknown, possibly in his late 20s or early 30s” to portray the beloved spy, fans are committed to making former Superman Henry Cavill the next 007. Which, unfortunately for them, is now highly unlikely considering Cavill’s status and him being 42 years old.
“Henry Cavill, damn it!!!” said one fan on X/Twitter, with another adding, “Henry Cavill next question.” Cavill, who is also known for roles in the likes of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, The Witcher, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, has been a favorite both with fans and bookies for some time. “The fans want Henry Cavill,” another fan asserts, with this X user saying, “Who you got chat?? Henry Cavill comes to mind.”
However, while there is clearly still a big push to see Cavill don the tux and sip a martini, some fans have come around to the idea of seeing a newer face in the iconic role; “While Henry Cavill is perfect for the role, it would be nice to have a person with no background assume the role. Someone who’s James Bond and only Bond.”
Fear Not Henry Cavill Fans, the Actor Has Plenty in the Pipeline
Other suggestions being made following this latest casting update include other firm favorites such as 28 Years Later and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden, and Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy. Meanwhile, several Bond fans are still convinced Spider-Man actor Tom Holland will win the role. Of course, none of these would constitute a “fresh face,” so don’t expect to see any of these names hit the headlines when the next James Bond is officially announced.
Henry Cavill, who did once audition for the role of James Bond when the franchise was being rebooted back in 2006 with Casino Royale, the first outing for Daniel Craig, is also plenty busy. The actor, having now left the roles of Superman and Geralt of Rivia behind, is all set to lead John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s long-awaited Highlander remake; will play a key role in Amazon’s live-action iteration of the animated sci-fi action series Voltron; and will join forces with Guy Ritchie and Jake Gyllenhaal for the action thriller In the Grey. And that’s without mentioning his plans for a live-action Warhammer 40,000 series. So, while he will probably never play James Bond, there is more than enough in the pipeline for the actor’s fans to get excited about.
