Director Martin Campbell
, who has successfully rebooted the James Bond franchise twice, first with Pierce Brosnan’s first outing in 1995’s GoldenEye and again in Daniel Craig’s first movie Casino Royale in 2006, has now predicted when he thinks the latest era of 007 will begin. Speaking with Men’s Journal recently, Campbell offered his insight into what the future holds for Bond…and questioned whether there will ever even be another reboot following the “legal thing” between Amazon and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
“I mean, is there going to be another Bond? That’s the question. I mean there’s this legal thing right now. Which, by the way, when I did GoldenEye, there was a six-year gap between the last Dalton one and that. And now, of course, they have this problem with Amazon. It’s ironic. It’s sort of the same thing. God knows what’s going to happen. And also the director choice will come from Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, who are fantastic producers.”
Pointing out that it took six years for a new James Bond to emerge following Timothy Dalton’s License to Kill (it’s now four years since Daniel Craig walked away from the role in 2021’s No Time to Die), Campbell thinks we could be waiting a little while yet before seeing 007 back on the big screen.
“I think it’ll be two years away, three years away.”
Could ‘Cleaner’ Star Taz Skylar Play 007? Martin Campbell Responds
Martin Campbell returns to the world of action with this month’s Cleaner, which stars Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley as a highly trained ex-soldier who, after being dishonorably discharged and working as a cleaner, finds herself called into action while at the center of a hostage situation. Alongside Ridley, Cleaner stars British-Spanish actor Taz Skylar, who Campbell thinks could have some potential as the new James Bond…whenever it happens.
“Taz is such a sort of charismatic guy, isn’t he? He was great to work with as well. I mean, look, he looks pretty young. But, on the other hand, they’re going to have to cast someone young-ish because he has to go to five movies.”

James Bond Reboot Reportedly Planning Divisive Move to Appeal To Younger Audiences
Amazon wants audiences to wield their licence to meme.
Currently, we have little idea who will play James Bond when the next reboot happens (despite Campbell’s skepticism, it’s surely inevitable), and we have no idea at all regarding what sort of shape the reboot will take. Problems are reportedly taking place behind the scenes, with Barbara Broccoli taking issue with Amazon’s hopes to expand the franchise into streaming spin-offs. But this is not something that Campbell ever thinks will happen…
“No. I know Barbara will absolutely stick to her guns and say this is a theatrical experience. This is not going to go to streaming immediately. I know she’ll stick to her guns. Bond is always an event picture. That’s the point. A Bond film. Wow. I always love it when a new Bond comes out.”
Cleaner is scheduled to be released in theaters on 21 February 2025.
