Famed director J.J. Abrams is currently developing a new movie with a shockingly star-studded cast, and for a multitude of reasons, this is the director’s most exciting project in years. Abrams first entered the movie and TV scene in the early 1990s as a writer. However, his big break came in 2004 when he co-created the sci-fi mystery series, Lost, which is still considered to be one of the best shows of the 2000s. Despite grossing $260 million at the box office and earning rave reviews from critics, it was the first and last original movie Abrams ever made – until now.

Many may be wondering why it took so long for this to happen. The simplest answer is that Abrams rose to fame a bit too quickly. After successfully directing Mission: Impossible III , Abrams was given the chance to direct two massive sci-fi franchises: Star Trek and Star Wars. While Abrams’ franchise films brought in a lot of money and much critical success, they also received backlash from fans who disliked the direction he was taking these film series. Ultimately, this kept him from pursuing his own projects and from even making movies for a few years.
