I’ve Changed My Mind About Yellowjackets’ Unluckiest Character After Remembering This Taissa Fact

All the major characters in Yellowjackets are extremely unlucky — their psychological turmoil is the source of the show’s horror — but after careful consideration, I think I’ve determined which one is the unluckiest of the bunch. In the first episode of Yellowjackets, all the main characters were involved in a devastating plane crash and the shocking twist ending revealed that they would be stranded in the wilderness for so long that they would resort to cannibalism. No one in that ensemble has been blessed with good fortune.

But some of the characters in Yellowjackets are even unluckier than the others. Ben had to get his leg amputated by Misty. Jackie was left out in the cold to freeze to death overnight. The so-called “Pit Girl” is doomed to be eaten by the other plane crash survivors. Now that we’re a few episodes into Yellowjackets season 3, I think I’ve figured out which member of this cast has the unenviable title of most unfortunate character in the show.

Akilah Was Only On The Plane Because Of Allie’s Injury

There are plenty of unlucky characters in Yellowjackets — and the survivors’ misfortune has continued long after they were rescued from the wilderness — but I think the unluckiest character in the show right now is Akilah. Akilah was only on the plane in the first place because of Allie’s injury, which Taissa caused after targeting her. Much like Dante in Clerks, Akilah’s not even supposed to be here. At least everyone else was scheduled to be on that doomed plane from the beginning.

As if the wilderness wasn’t creepy enough on its own, Akilah is tormented by hallucinations of a talking llama with the voice of “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero. And to make matters even worse, Travis lied, which caused Lottie to give Akilah more attention and keep forcing her to go into a poisonous cave to connect with the wilderness. Who would’ve thought that surviving a plane crash would be the least of Akilah’s worries?

Akilah is having a really rough go of it in the past timeline, but the modern-day timeline spells an even worse fate for her. The modern-day timeline has been simultaneously showing what awaits the characters after they get out of the wilderness and return to civilization. But in three seasons, there’s been no mention of Akilah in the present-day scenes, which seems to foreshadow a grim fate for her in the past. After everything she’s been through, all the signs are there that she’ll meet an untimely death before the Yellowjackets are rescued.
