Newcastle United’s pre-season programme steps up a notch today, as we take on Celtic in the Adidas Cup.
10,000 Toon fans have touched down in Glasgow and will pack out Celtic Park in our first major outing since that final day meeting with Everton at the end of May.
Here is how the two sides line up ahead of the 3pm kick-off in Scotland:
Newcastle XI: Pope; Trippier, Botman, Schar, Targett; Guimaraes, Miley, Willock; Murphy, Osula, Barnes.
Subs: Dubravka, Ruddy, Krafth, Ashby, Burn, A Murphy, Lascelles, Tonali, White, Hernes, Munda, Gordon, Elanga, Neave
Celtic XI: Schmeichel, Inamura, Trusty, Murray, Ralston, McCowan, McGregor, Engels, Maeda, Yang, Kenny.
Anthony Elanga is in the squad and set for his first minutes in black and white, but both Alexander Isak and Joelinton are having their ‘minutes managed’ and miss out of the squad.
Will Osula starts, as does Sven Botman, and there are several U21 talents on the bench in Travis Hernes, Anthony Munda and Sean Neave, along with returning loanees Alex Murphy, Harrison Ashby and Joe White.
Lewis Hall is still absent as he steps up his recovery from a foot injury, with Sean Longstaff absent after sealing a £15m move to Leeds last night.
Tino Livramento hasn’t yet returned to the squad after being granted additional time off following his involvement in U21 Euros, but he’ll be back for our pre-season tour of East Asia.
Antonio Cordero is also not involved today as Newcastle work on a suitable loan move for the winger, which was always the plan since he signed last month.
