On Wednesday, FC Barcelona will square off against Inter Milan at home in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie.
Hansi Flick’s side go into the game without some important players as Robert Lewandowski and Alejandro Balde are both out injured, along with Marc Casado and Marc Bernal. Captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen will also be unavailable as he is not registered in the UCL squad.
Balde working to be fit for the second leg vs Inter
Now, according to journalist Toni Juanmarti, Balde is working hard on being available for the second leg of the semi-final tie against Inter Milan next week.
After his injury earlier this month, there was hope that the 21-year-old left-back could recover in time to face the Nerazzurri at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
However, things have not turned out that way and despite some speculations about his potential availability, Barcelona have known since last week that the La Masia graduate will not be ready in time for the home leg.
There may be a possibility that Balde can make a comeback for the La Liga encounter against Real Valladolid this week, although it is unclear at this point.
What is clear is that the rising star is working towards being fit and available for the trip to Italy next week for the second leg against Simone Inzaghi’s men on 6 May.
So far this season, Balde has one goal and ten assists from 43 matches in all competitions, taking his game up a notch under Flick.
In his absence, Gerard Martin has filled in at left-back and appears to be the front-runner to start vs Inter, although Flick has the option of using someone like Hector Fort or Inigo Martinez.
