Certain TV characters make such an impact on the shows they’re in that they leave behind a hole that is difficult to fill when they are written out of the story. Many factors contribute to an actor leaving a show. It could be due to creative differences, outside opportunities, or simply to serve the plot. Other times, it has nothing to do with the actor, but simply that the character’s story has come to an end. Even so, some characters are still so beloved that audiences hold out hope that they will get to see them again, even years later.
Depending on the universe the show is set in, even death might not be the end of a character. Of course, the “it was all a dream” trope as seen in Dallas might not be an ideal solution, but many shows have been more creative at explaining resurrections. In other instances, the door is often opened when they first depart, so as long as the show is going, there is still an opportunity for them to walk back through it.

Cristina Yang
Grey’s Anatomy
While it might be a long shot, seeing as Sandra Oh moved on from Grey’s Anatomy ages ago, fans would absolutely love to see the brilliant doctor walk the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial again. Unlike many other notable characters, her departure was not marked by the death of the character, and the show has already seen her appear once after her departure.

Now That Sandra Oh’s Open To Returning, Here Are 5 Ways That Cristina Yang Can Return In Grey’s Anatomy
With a potential Cristina Yang return being more likely in Grey’s Anatomy, some reasons that could motivate it would work better than others.
But, seeing as how Grey’s Anatomy has changed so much over the years, an injection of original characters could be just what the doctor ordered. Whenever the long-running medical drama ends, it would be a great service to the fans who stuck around for so long if some of the legacy characters returned in some capacity.
Cristina Yang could be called back for a project that covers the bulk of the season, for example, giving her time with Meredith, Bailey, and Richard. It would be great to see her showcase her award-winning medical skills and witty remarks once again.

The Eleventh Doctor
Doctor Who
Matt Smith was a fan-favorite of the never-ending Doctor Who franchise, and seeing as how many other Doctors have made their returns in various capacities, it stands to reason that the Eleventh Doctor could come back, too. Ncuti Gatwa is doing a phenomenal job in his role as the current Doctor, but the show has many different ways of incorporating previous iterations of the time traveler.
His seasons felt very emotional and connected to the viewers in a real way, and a lot of it was due to Matt Smith’s interpretation of the beloved character.
Whether The Eleventh Doctor ushers in whoever the next actor is, or appears in some sort of flashback capacity, the door to the TARDIS remains open. In Eleven’s tenure, he encountered the terrifying Weeping Angels, entered the world of Charles Dickens, and even ran with dinosaurs.
His seasons felt very emotional and connected to the viewers in a real way, and a lot of it was due to Matt Smith’s interpretation of the beloved character. With Catherine Tate briefly returning for David Tennant’s return episodes, it’s not impossible to hope that Karen Gillan could also briefly rejoin the universe as Amy Pond if Matt Smith ever were to return. The possibilities are limitless.

Roscoe Conklin
Reacher
Considering that it seems to be adhering to the novels, plot-wise, it’s likely that Roscoe Conklin’s time is firmly up in Reacher. However, Reacher has been such a smash success that there have been plans for spin-offs as well as countless future seasons. All of this means that no character’s return is off the table.

After Watching Reacher Season 3, I Truly Fear Jack Reacher Is Over Roscoe
After watching some major story developments in Reacher season 3, I am almost sure that Roscoe will never appear again in the Prime Video series.
The chemistry between Willa Fitzgerald and Alan Ritchson was one of the highlights of season 1, so revisiting that would be a welcome addition to future seasons. There are a few different ways Fitzgerald’s Roscoe Conklin could return to the Jack Reacher universe.

A whole new story, unrelated to the novels, could be introduced, allowing the writers to use their creativity to bring her back. This could be an unexpected twist to the formula, opening up a whole new realm of possibilities. On the other hand, she could also appear in a spinoff with an arc of her own, allowing for the character to be explored in further detail.

Daphne Sullivan
The White Lotus
There have been multiple rumors of a potential all-star season of The White Lotus, allowing for previous guests to return to the deadly resort. Showrunner Mike White has gone ahead and killed off two indisputable fan-favorites, including Tanya and Chelsea, but there are plenty more awful and privileged guests who will no doubt return. If he chose to put another beloved character in danger in an upcoming season of The White Lotus, Meghann Fahy’s Daphne Sullivan would be the perfect choice.
Daphne was the only one that seemed safe in The White Lotus season 2, as she was the one who actually discovered the body, so it would stand to reason she might not be as lucky if she were to come back. Meghann Fahy did a fantastic job at giving this seemingly quiet and unproblematic character the depth she needed, and that lingering look she had in the finale was masterful. It would be good to see her, post-divorce, on a self-care trip, and have her get tangled up in something even more salacious and juicy.

The Duke of Hastings
Bridgerton
Raunchy and romantic, Bridgerton became a huge hit as soon as it debuted on Netflix. The timing of the escapist romp was exactly what many locked-down viewers needed, as the pastel-colored world of Bridgerton‘s Regency-era London took audiences into a much more beautiful world.
Season 1 followed the story of Daphne and Simon, whose love story introduced the world to Lady Whistledown and the upper-class residents of the Ton. Though each season is meant to follow a central new couple, most of the cast has remained in the show in some capacity. Regé-Jean Page made a huge impact as the rakish Duke Hastings, who stole the heart of Daphne Bridgerton, as well as millions of viewers at home.

When Bridgerton season 2 was announced, he sadly confirmed he would not renew his contract, and Phoebe Dynevor had to represent the union on her own, leading to her own departure. Seeing as there are more seasons to come, here’s hoping he returns to at least wrap up the whole series, allowing viewers a glimpse into the lives of the Duke and Duchess of Hastings one more time.

Eddie Munson
Stranger Things
Joseph Quinn was one of the best additions to season 4 of the Netflix hit Stranger Things. As Eddie Munson, he had a satisfying character arc that saw him evolve from a coward who runs away into a hero who stood up for his friends, ultimately sacrificing his own life in the process.

While the character may have met his demise, there is still hope that viewers might still get to see Eddie again. As with Dr. Brenner and Billy, the Duffer brothers might opt to bring this fan-favorite back in some capacity. It could utilize the seeming time discrepancy or a simple flashback, but having Joseph Quinn return as Eddie Munson for the final season of Stranger Things would undoubtedly bring many audience members joy.

Samantha Jones
And Just Like That
When the news of a Sex and the City revival was announced, fans were distraught to find out Kim Cattrall would not be part of it. While the show came out to a lukewarm reception, the ingrained love that the characters left behind kept viewers tuning in, even if, for some, it was begrudgingly.
Whether And Just Like That continues to feature Cattrall’s Samantha via FaceTime and camera trickery, or she gets a spin-off of her own, it is clear that this character is sorely missed.
Though And Just Like That cleverly brought back some beloved characters and managed to introduce a few interesting new players, there was a huge void left by everybody’s favorite PR executive. Samantha’s cameo in the revival show’s second season was met with universal approval, and even those brief few minutes managed to inject life into the sometimes soulless-feeling show.
While Cattrall did not share actual screen time with the other actors because of their falling out, the clever editing of her phone call with Carrie was just enough for viewers to realize how much the show needs Samantha Jones. Whether And Just Like That continues to feature Cattrall’s Samantha via FaceTime and camera trickery, or she gets a spin-off of her own, it is clear that this character is sorely missed.
