I Can’t Believe I Only Just Realized Heated Rivalry’s Connor Storrie Was In A DC Movie 2 Years Ago

It’s not uncommon in Hollywood for actors to get their start playing small roles in movies and television before they get their big break. In the case of Heated Rivalry breakout star Connor Storrie, he appeared in a 2024 DC movie before playing hockey star Ilya Rozanov.

Before James Gunn’s Superman launched the new DC Universe last year, DC was having a lackluster run of films. The DC Extended Universe came to a disheartening close in 2023 with a string of box office disasters, including The Flash, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The DC films couldn’t even boast critical or fan acclaim, since their reception was middling at best.

In 2024, DC largely took the year off from live-action films, but there was one that released in theaters and continued the comics publisher’s underperformance both at the box office, and with critics and general audiences alike. It was in this film that Connor Storrie appeared before going on to co-star in Heated Rivalry.

Alongside Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie stars in the hockey romance series Heated Rivalry, which was adapted by writer-director Jacob Tierney (Letterkenny, Shoresy) from Rachel Reid’s same-named novel. The show was created by Canadian-based company Crave, and was picked up for distribution by HBO Max, becoming a streaming sensation in late 2025.

On Heated Rivalry, Storrie plays Ilya Rozanov, a closeted bisexual Russian hockey player who falls in love with Williams’ Shane Hollander over the course of nearly a decade. Storrie’s performance was lauded in the series, especially for the Texas-born actor’s ability to portray a native Russian speaker with authenticity. But Heated Rivalry wasn’t the first time Storrie stole the show.

Before Heated Rivalry, Connor Storrie appeared as the young inmate at Arkham Asylum in Joker: Folie à Deux. The character is shown throughout Todd Phillips’ sequel, often in the background of scenes featuring Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck. At the end of Joker: Folie à Deux, Storrie’s young inmate stabs Arthur Fleck, ending his life.

Storrie’s character then mutilates himself with the same knife, giving himself the scars on either side of his mouth that are associated with the Joker. Essentially, Storrie becomes the real Joker in Phillips’ DC universe, inspired by Arthur Fleck’s pageantry but determined to take it even further. In order to do so, he kills Arthur, presumably so he can take over the Joker persona.

It seems like Todd Philips targeted Folie à Deux directly at the audience who got a little too into Joker – and made it to antagonize them.

Storrie’s role in Joker: Folie à Deux is relatively small, but it’s an important part of the narrative, and the actor very nearly steals the show from Phoenix and Lady Gaga throughout the film.
