The best thriller series on Hulu is critically lauded, award-winning, and can be watched with ease. The best shows on Hulu include a range of genres, with new releases like Alien: Earth covering sci-fi fans, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia offering something for comedy lovers, and more.
One thing that’s hard to deny is a good thriller, a show that will keep its viewers gripped from beginning to end. The best thrillers can deliver consistently escalating stakes, compelling character work, exciting action, and more. In this case, the FX series Fargo offers all of that, plus laugh-out-loud dark humor.
Fargo Is A Masterpiece Crime Thriller/Black Comedy With An All-Star Cast
Fargo is an anthology series created by Alien: Earth showrunner Noah Hawley, and it’s based on the 1996 film of the same name. In the spirit of the original movie, Hawley faithfully replicates the iconic style of the Oscar-winning Coen Brothers in the writing of each season, creating tense, dramatic narratives with moments of brilliant levity to balance them out.
Fargo’s cast differs with each season, with several fantastic actors joining the series over time and delivering exceptional performances. Billy Bob Thornton is widely celebrated for his role in Fargo season 1, Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons kill it in season 2, and Ewan McGregor has an arguably career-best performance playing twins in season 3.
Other Fargo cast members include Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Carrie Coon (The White Lotus), Martin Freeman (Sherlock), and many more. With all five seasons compiled, Fargo has one of the most impressive acting rosters in TV history.
I’ve often considered Fargo as a lighter, more approachable version of True Detective. It sacrifices some of the HBO thriller’s existential themes for more humor and entertainment value, offering similarly fascinating stories and equally strong casts.
Fargo’s Anthology Format Makes It Easy To Binge-Watch
One of the best parts about Fargo is that one can get a full story in just one weekend of binge-watching. For those who like a quick watch and don’t want to commit to something long-term, you can enjoy Fargo without watching all of it; each season is a different narrative.
There are some underlying stories connecting seasons of Fargo, but each one can be enjoyed individually. This leaves two options: either pick the cast that interests you the most, or just start from the beginning and see where it takes you. I recommend the latter, but it’s down to preference!
