In between inevitable questions about Alexander Isak, Eddie Howe was asked about new signing Jacob Ramsey this morning.
The 24-year-old arrived from Aston Villa last week, signing a five-year deal on Tyneside after the club struck a £39m deal rising to £43m for the attacking midfielder.
Speaking to Premier League reporter Andy Sixsmith, Howe was asked how he’s done in training this week and if he’ll be available for Liverpool.
The boss revealed that he’s looked “really impressive” and is fit for Monday, but then went to share on thing that’s surprised him about the former England U21 star, naming his height and size as something that’s shocked him, in a good way, after meeting him in person for the first time:
“He’ll be available,” Howe said on Ramsey. “We’ve still got training sessions to go before the game but he’s in a good place and has looked really impressive in his first couple of days.
“Really, really good technically, very intelligent and I think he’ll add a lot to the team. He has standout qualities.”
“One thing I was pleasantly surprised by is that he’s bigger than I thought! You see them on the pitch and do your research, but then you meet them!
“It was the same when I met Tino Livramento! So we have a little joke about that. Jacob is 6ft 1″, which pleasantly surprised me. Nice presence, nice energy about him as a person, and he’s trained really well.”
Howe also confirmed that fellow left-sided midfielder Joe Willock is “back, fit and looking good” after returning to training on Tuesday, despite initial fears that he could be missing until mid September.
