With the addition of The Sims 4: Life & Death expansion, players can bring a brand-new melancholic social event to their Sims, and that is hosting a funeral. Similarly to weddings, hosting a funeral allows you to bring your Sims together for a special moment, adding another layer of reality to this simulated world.

To host a funeral, you must first have purchased and installed the Life & Death expansion and the base game. Once downloaded, the Sims 4 expansion offers new careers, build mode items, and activities centered around honoring the cycle of life.

Plan A Funeral To Remember Your Sims That Have Passed

To begin planning a funeral, as morbid as it sounds, one of your Sims must die. Once they’ve passed on into their ghostly form, all that’s left to do is collect the inheritance, if there is any, and plan the funeral. To do this, like most social events in Sims 4, you simply need to open the calendar and select the “Add Funeral Event” option on the bottom left.

Sims can come back to life in The Sims 4: Life & Death. By completing a Soul’s Journey Bucket List, dying Sims will have the option to be reborn.

From here, you’ll be brought to a new screen where you can customize the aspects of your funeral. The Sim you’re controlling will be auto-generated as the host of the event, but you’ll be able to select the deceased that’ll be honored, as well as guests, a hired mourner, and an entertainer. Be sure to double-check the will of your deceased Sim, as some Sims may have specified that they’d prefer a certain thing at their funeral, such as a performance.

As for further details, you’ll also be able to select whether you want them to wear certain attire when attending and whether there is a dress code or not, meaning you can have everyone show up in traditional mourning attire if you choose to. Once you’ve selected all the details, you’ll move onto the next screen, where you’ll need to choose at least three activities for the Sims 4 funeral.

Again, when selecting activities, this is a good time to refer to the will in case your Sim had something specific in mind for their service. Once you’ve finalized everything, the last thing to do is pick a location and time for the funeral before finalizing using the check on the bottom right.

Now that your funeral has been set, you should see an icon on the calendar for the day you selected. Once it is time for the event, you’ll receive a notification that the event is coming up, and you’ll need to head to the location. While attending the funeral, you can honor your Sim by completing the activities you selected, decorating their casket, changing their photo display, and even dedicating their memorial to your household or another Sim.
