“The negative was that we didn’t have any respiratory therapists, and we didn’t have any physical nurse practitioners, so we rectified that. There’re going to be a lot of RTs and NPs in season two.”

RTs diagnose, treat, educate, and inform patients with mild to severe respiratory issues. Nurse Practitioners are advanced, highly educated Registered Nurses who either hold Master’s or Doctoral degrees. With their expertise, Nurse Practitioners have the authority to diagnose disorders and illnesses, order tests and treatments, prescribe and administer medicines, and often have a specialized area of knowledge.

“They feel that it contextualizes the work they do to their families and partners who they can’t often articulate it to,” he says. “I don’t want to articulate it, but they can nod their head when they say, ‘Is that what you do every day? Have you ever done that before? Have you ever seen that before?’ I feel like that extra empathy it gives the support group around these workers is really invaluable.”
